Underpinning

Underpinning allows for you to increase the height of your ceiling basement, while still maintaining maximum square footage. Underpinning involves digging sections under the existing foundation wall to the desired depth. Once the concrete floor is removed and the soil excavated, new footings are poured to the depth where your new floor will be. This is done in sections to ensure that the load of the foundation is transferred smoothly and the new section can support the load. Once this is complete, a layer of gravel is placed on the floor and then the new concrete floor is installed. This method completely restores cracked or damaged foundations to like new condition. This will provide additional stability and support to your home, making the overall structure more stable.

Lowering your basement is a complex and expensive job, so it is important to understand the differences between methods and to go over your options with our structural engineer. Before any work starts, we will provide detailed drawings of the proposed work and will take care of getting a building permit. After we have finalized pricing and a start date that fits your schedule, we will begin the work.
